Looking for a creative escape, something that moves and inspires you, or just something a little different this June long weekend? We’ve got the perfect event for you. One where you’ll not only be awed and captivated by incredible talent, but also will have the chance to directly support our local arts community. Cue the Creative Journey Open Studio Art Trail, a behind-the-scenes look at the Central Coast’s thriving creative scene. Which is running all June long weekend from Saturday 6 to Monday 8 June.

Returning for its second year in a row. Which is no surprise after the resounding success of last year’s inaugural trail! The trail will see over 50 artists, makers, creators and community groups Coastwide opening the doors of their artist studios, galleries and creative spaces to the public. This is a rare opportunity to step inside the working worlds of some of our region’s most talented artists, makers and creatives.

We think one of the best parts of Creative Journey is that it’s a self-guided trail, meaning that over the course of the long weekend, it allows you to take your time exploring, travel at your own pace and create an itinerary that suits your interests. Perhaps you’ll visit studios near your home so that you can linger a little longer. Or maybe the idea of doing a full-day adventure is more your style. That way, you can squeeze in a few of your favourite artists from opposite Coastie corners. Download the official map here. Choose the artists that pique your interest, plan your route, and set off on an adventure that uncovers hidden and unexpected artistic treasures across the Coast.

Now, you don’t need to be a passionate art lover; the trail is designed for everyone. Especially those curious weekend explorers and those who are looking for an inspiring day out. Creative Journey is about inclusivity and making art accessible to all! Designed for the public to meet the artists themselves rather than viewing artwork in a traditional gallery setting, has to be one of the most rewarding aspects of the trail. Visitors can chat directly with makers in their own creative spaces, hear the stories behind their work and gain insight into the techniques, inspiration and processes that bring each piece to life.

The trail showcases an impressive variety of mediums and disciplines. Expect everything from painting, ceramics and sculpture through to mixed media, textiles, drawing and contemporary craft. Many participating artists will also be hosting demonstrations, workshops and hands-on experiences throughout the weekend, offering visitors the chance to learn a new skill or simply immerse themselves in the creative process.

Before you head out, spend some time exploring the artist profile videos available on the Creative Journey website. These short films offer a glimpse into the people and stories behind the trail, helping visitors connect with the artists before they even arrive. The website also includes curated itineraries designed to help you explore different pockets of the region, making it easy to turn your visit into a full day or weekend adventure.

And while art may be the focus, the journey itself is part of the experience. One moment you could be visiting a coastal studio overlooking the ocean, the next winding your way through the hinterland to discover a hidden workshop nestled among the trees. It’s a wonderful reminder of just how diverse and beautiful the Central Coast really is.

If you’re planning to venture inland, why not combine your Creative Journey with some of the region’s other long weekend experiences? The Central Coast Harvest Festival is also taking place across the hinterland, offering another opportunity to explore local producers, farms and country communities while you’re out discovering the Coast’s creative side.
