The 5 Lands Walk on the Central Coast is a free community festival that is all about connecting people to people and people to place. Taking place yearly on the gorgeous beaches of the Central Coast in New South Wales, it happens around the winter solstice, making strong connections to the great whale migration of the time. Encouraging all locals to be a part of 5 Lands Walk, local bus transport is free between each land.  For those able bodies, you may choose to walk the 10km from Macmasters to Terrigal.

Whilst joining the event on Saturday, June 22, 2024 is a fab way to get involved with the local community (register here) doing the 5 Lands Walk as a self-guided is always an option and a great way to spend the day.  There are plenty of pit stops along the way where you can stop for sustenance and to refuel.  Plus, the scenery!  I mean these beaches are without doubt some of the jewels in the Central Coast’s crown.

Now, if you are going to tackle the full walk, as mentioned it is a 10km so strong legs are required.  But, the epic scenery is the payoff for your hard work.  From Macs to Copa via Avoca and North Avoca and lastly finishing off in Terrigal the walk is picture perfect.  Spotting whales is definitely on the cards during the migration season (from around May to November each year), not to mention endless ocean views and bushland.

Our first pitstop for supporting the local cafes would be in Copacabana, Burnt Honey has the baked goods that dreams are made of, Bees Knees does epic toasties and Oh Bless Home is a serene spot for a cuppa. Once your refuelling is complete head up Del Monte Place to Captain Cook lookout. “Wow, just wow” we know you’ll be saying as you catch your breath. After you’ve taken in this idyllic vista it’s time to set off again through the bush until you reach Avoca.

Central Coast Walks: 5 Lands Walk

Head the length of Avoca Beach until you reach North Avoca, you’re nearly there!  If you’re in need of another pitstop the Boy and Rose is always a crowd-pleaser.  Or, a mid-walk swim!  We highly recommend packing your swimmers. As, if the sun is shining, even in the winter months on the Central Coast, the ocean water is usually mild and there is nothing quite like an ocean swim to feel invigorated and alive.

Walk on past North Avoca Surf Club and up over the hill into Terrigal, coming over the hill you’ll be greeted by the Haven. We promise that no one will judge you if you pull into Trojans Clubhouse or the Terrigal Pavillion to take in the view!  Or for a cheeky schooner to celebrate your efforts.

Continue down the Terrigal Boardwalk and onto Terrigal Beach and you’ve officially completed the 5 Lands Walk.  Go you!
