School Holidays on the Central Coast: Easy Ideas to Keep the Kids Busy
Two weeks is a long stretch when you’ve got kids asking “what are we doing today?” by 8am. This one’s full of simple, local ideas to help fill the days — things to book ahead, things you can wing last minute, and a few that’ll actually get them out of the house (and off the iPad for a bit). Nothing overcomplicated, just solid options that work in real life.

Origami Festival
Friday 10 & Saturday 11 April | Edogawa Japanese Gardens, Gosford
The infamous Origami Festival is coming back to the Central Coast, transforming the Edogawa Japanese Gardens into a glowing after-dark experience – and if you haven’t been before, you’re in for a treat. It blends light, sound, performance and nature into something often described as “Vivid meets Dark Mofo,” but with a more intimate, wander-at-your-own-pace feel. Friday night introduces Origami Kids, a twilight adventure for ages 2–12 featuring roaming characters, interactive light installations, circus performers and a Moonlight Disco under the trees. On Saturday, the 18+ festival takes over with live electronic music, projection art and performances from acts including Stereogamous, Heart Armour and Yo Oo Ya. Expect a creative, immersive night out where dressing up is encouraged and every corner reveals something new – with limited capacity, it’s one to book early.

Costa Georgiadis has been spotted on the Coast! Costa and the Gardening Australia crew filmed in the stunning Japanese Gardens at Gosford Regional Gallery, showcasing one of our region’s most peaceful hidden gems. Circus Aurelia
Friday 10 – Sunday 19 April | Hope Unlimited Church, Charmhaven
The circus is in town — and this one doesn’t hold back. Circus Aurelia is rolling into the Central Coast with a mix of big, high-energy acts, from motorbikes inside the Globe of Death to aerialists, acrobatics and a bit of classic clowning for the kids. It’s fast-paced, genuinely impressive and easy to watch (no confusing storyline to keep up with — just good old-fashioned circus done really well). Running across the school hols, so it’s a solid option when you need something different to break up the week.
Dogs Big Day Out
Saturday 11 April | Hardy’s Bay Club, Hardys Bay
If your dog’s due for a day out (they definitely are), this one’s a bit of fun. Head to Hardy’s Bay Club from 2–4pm for an easy arvo with doggie fashion shows, best trick comps, lookalike moments and a few prizes up for grabs. It’s super relaxed – no bookings, just rock up with your pup (as long as they play nice) and settle in. There’ll be kids’ activities too, plus the winners of the Paint a Pet Art Show announced on the day.
The Coast Games 2026
Sunday 12 April | Central Coast Grammar School, Erina Heights
They’re back for 2026, bringing a huge weekend of high-energy competition, serious strength and an atmosphere that’s just as fun for spectators as it is for athletes. Big lifts, tough workouts and plenty of crowd hype as competitors from across the region (and beyond) go head-to-head on the floor. Even if you’re not competing, this is one to show up for — the energy alone makes it worth it! The event is proudly supported by local businesses including Central Real Capital, Bendigo Bank, P3 Recovery Erina, Coastal Lawyers, Waters Cranes, Coastal Building, BSTBDY and yours truly at Coasties Mag. Celebrating 50 years of the Pearl Beach Arboretum, this special concert under the trees features The Bathtub Gin Orchestra with their toe-tapping blend of 1920s stomp, early swing and Gypsy jazz, supported by local favourites The Pearlers. Bring chairs or picnic rugs, enjoy food vans and plant sales, and enjoy this truly unique community concert.
Summer Outdoor Cinema Series
Sunday 12 April | Budgewoi Hotel
Movie nights under the stars are back at the Budgewoi Hotel. The Summer Outdoor Cinema Series kicks off with Shrek followed by Mamma Mia, pairing family-friendly fun with a feature film for the grown-ups. Grab snacks, drinks or cocktails delivered straight to your table.

Friday 17 April | Drifters Wharf, Gosford
One of Australia’s most enduring live acts, Thirsty Merc hit Drifters Wharf this April. With multiple ARIA nominations, over 250,000 album sales and hits like 20 Good Reasons, they’ve well and truly cemented their place in Aussie music history. A high-energy night on the waterfront.
Nāda Sound Spa at Saddles Barn
Saturday 18 April | Saddles Barn, Saddles Mount White
If you’ve been feeling a bit fried lately, this is your sign to slow right down. Nāda Sound Spa is bringing an intimate, candlelit immersive sound healing experience to the Saddles. A tapestry of live music, breathwork, guided meditation and a full sound bath with everything from crystal bowls and gongs to cello, flutes and more. It runs from 7–9pm and everything’s set up for you, yoga mats, luxurious blankets, ceremonial cacao. You just need to show up and switch off for a couple of hours.
Swell Art Collective
Saturday 18 – Sunday 19 April | Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club
If you love art with a side of ocean views, Swell Art Collective is calling your name. Held at Terrigal Surf Life Saving Club, this two-day exhibition brings together local artists in a relaxed, welcoming space where you can meet the makers, chat about their work and even watch live art installations in action. The art is accompanied by beachy tunes, and the bar opens from 2pm each day — the kind of easy afternoon Terrigal does best.
With original pieces available at accessible prices (and a portion of sales supporting the Surf Club), it’s all about locals backing locals. Swing by, grab a drink and you might just leave with something special.

Gosford Strip Block Party
Sunday 3 May | Mann Street, Gosford
Gossy is hosting a proper neighbourhood block party, with local eats spilling out onto the street, live music and DJs, pop-ups, drinks, and plenty happening for the kids too. It’s all about celebrating the locals bringing Gosford back to life, so you can expect a good crowd and heaps of energy. Park the car at Baker Street Car Park (open all weekend & nights for the first time in decades), or jump off the train and wander on down. It’s all happening on Mann Street between The Archibald Precinct & Hotel Gosford, 12-8pm.
Make It Big Artist and Makers Market
Sunday 3 May | Gosford Regional Gallery
The Central Coast’s biggest artist and makers market returns just in time for Mother’s Day, bringing more than 70 stalls of handmade goods from talented local artists and creatives. Held across the Gosford Regional Gallery forecourt, studios and parklands, the day also features live music, food trucks, free art activities for kids, a bubble artist and access to the beautiful Japanese Gardens. Entry is free, making it a perfect Sunday outing while picking up something special for Mum.

Ink & Drink Alcohol Ink Class
Saturday 9 May & Sunday 24 May | Rustique on the Coast, Ourimbah
Get creative with a colourful afternoon of art and good company at the Ink & Drink alcohol ink workshops by Inked Creations. In this relaxed class you’ll learn the basics of alcohol inks, experiment on special ink paper and create your own drink coaster before finishing a piece to take home – choose from a plant pot, wine glass or artwork to frame. Mother’s Day Classic
Sunday 10 May | The Entrance & Woy Woy
Start Mother’s Day with a walk (or run) that actually means something. The Mother’s Day Classic is back, raising funds for breast and ovarian cancer research, with local events at The Entrance (5km) and Woy Woy (2km or 5km). It’s a pretty special one – families, friends and the wider community all showing up for the same reason. You can register to take part, volunteer, or simply get behind the cause on the day.

Lisa Simone: A Daughter’s Tribute to Nina Simone

This local favourite is hosting a Biggest Morning Tea for the fourth year, so you know it’s going to be good. They’ve booked market stalls, live music, games, prizes, plenty of food and (of course) great coffee, all while raising funds for the Cancer Council. It’s a really easy way to support a great cause and spend some time with the community — swing by, grab a cuppa and get involved, or donate to their fundraiser online.
Words on the Waves Writers Festival
Wednesday 27 May – Monday 1 June | Central Coast peninsula
Our fave literary festival returns in 2026, bringing a week-long celebration of stories, ideas and creativity to the Central Coast. The program includes author talks, panel discussions, writing workshops, book launches, a literary cruise, family events and a schools program, attracting acclaimed writers alongside emerging voices. It’s a vibrant festival for book lovers, curious minds and anyone who enjoys a great conversation sparked by great writing.
Coast Shelter Reconciliation Gathering
Thursday 28 May | Gosford
Part of National Reconciliation Week, this annual gathering brings the community together for a meaningful morning of connection, culture and learning. Starting at Coast Shelter on Mann Street, the community will march to polytec Stadium for a smoking ceremony, cultural performances and storytelling, finishing with a BBQ lunch. It’s a chance to come together, listen, learn and show your support in a really grounded, community-led way.
Whatever It Takes: Night of Nights for Kye
Saturday 30 May, 6pm | Gosford RSL
The community is coming together for a special fundraising evening to support 17-year-old Kye McIntosh, who is currently undergoing intensive rehabilitation following a tragic surfing accident at Wamberal in 2025. The community will raise funds to help with essential home and vehicle modifications as he works towards returning home, with MC Paddy Gerard (Triple M) hosting the night. If you can’t attend, organisers are also calling for donations of auction or raffle items – get in touch if you’d like to learn more, every contribution will make a real difference on Kye’s journey.

Degustation Dinner: Eat Your History
Saturday 6 June | Spencer, Hawkesbury River
This one’s a bit special – a 7 course degustation that blends food with storytelling, live music and a long-table setup, lit by candlelight. They’re preparing a menu inspired by historic recipes and local ingredients (oysters, damper, slow-cooked classics and old-school desserts), each course paired with a bit of context along the way. It runs from 4:30–9pm and sits under the Central Coast Harvest Festival’s Harvest Nights – ideal if you’re up for a cosy mid-winter experience to remember.
Coast Shelter Sleepout 2026
Friday 12 June | polytec Stadium, Gosford
One night out in the cold can make a real difference. Coast Shelter’s annual Sleepout is back, inviting locals to come together, raise funds and experience just a small glimpse of what too many in our community are facing. You can sign up to sleep out overnight or simply head along for the evening, with food, community and a strong sense of purpose behind it all. It kicks off from 5pm, with dinner and brekkie included for participants – and every dollar raised goes directly towards supporting Coasties doing it tough.
Bay to Bay Running Festival
Sunday 14 June | Woy Woy to Gosford
Entries opened 27 January, so it’s time to pick your distance and start training. The Bay to Bay Running Festival returns in 2026, taking runners from Woy Woy to Gosford in one of the Coast’s most iconic community events.
