Toukley has always flown a little under the radar – and that’s part of its appeal. It’s not flashy or pretentious. There’s an old-school coastal village vibe to this Central Coast suburb, with a main street that still feels like a main street. What’s been quietly happening though, is that Toukley’s been getting a bit of a glow-up. New spots are opening alongside old favourites, and word is spreading. People are coming for a meal, then wondering why they didn’t visit sooner. But even with all that momentum, Toukley still feels easy and familiar, the kind of place where locals say hello and nothing feels rushed.
So, if you’re wondering what to do in Toukley – where to eat, where to shop, where to stay – you’re in the right place. This neighbourhood guide covers the best things to do in Toukley, from local food & drink to easy activities and the spots worth settling in – especially at sunrise or sunset, when the lakes really put on a show.
Here’s why Toukley deserves a closer look.
Where to Eat & Drink in Toukley
From casual cafes to destination dinners, these are some of the best places to eat in Toukley.
Toukley Cafes

Rise Mofo / Snoop Burgers
A Toukley institution, Rise Mofo is where you go for a guaranteed delicious meal – bacon and egg muffins (or wagyu brisket / pork & fennel sausage and egg muffins when the kitchen is feeling fancy), decadent pastries, loaded sourdough crumpets, golden toasties – and a good strong coffee. Or make it an iced batch on a hot day. This hole-in-the-wall coffee shop in Toukley is easy to spot thanks to its gorgeous sunny mural and huddle of loyal locals out the front. Easy, reliable, no nonsense – just how we like it.
And from 5 – 7:30pm every Thursday & Friday, the space is home to Snoop Burgers, known for their mouthwatering fried chicken and wagyu beef burgers (or halloumi for the vegos), top-secret house-made sauce and epic shakes to wash it all down.

Blackfinn Espresso
Small but mighty, Blackfinn Espresso punches above its weight when it comes to quality coffee and a loyal following – and we’re not just saying that. People were coming to this Toukley cafe from all across the coast (and beyond), so much so that the team opened a second location in Killarney Vale mid-2024. And the hype is totally justified. They’re all about convenience with a fun twist – canned lattes, smoothies, even soft serve floats to grab & go. There’s joy in everything they offer, from a kids menu featuring sprinkles and Froot Loops to a hit of childhood nostalgia for the grown-ups thanks to drinks being served with a hundreds & thousands cookie on the side. Perfect for a quick takeaway on the run, or take a seat if you’ve got time to linger.

Blu J’s
Bright, friendly and popular with families, Blu J’s serves up a classic cafe menu with generous portions and regular specials. You definitely get bang for your buck here. Just off the main strip and with alfresco dining overlooking the Toukley Village Green, this is ideal if you’re after a relaxed brekkie or brunch with warm service.

Lou’s Cafe
A true local cafe, Lou’s feels like it’s been here forever – despite opening in 2021. We reckon that comes down to the staff, who immediately make you feel welcome and radiate enthusiasm all day long (tell us your secret!). This means it’s a winner for families with young kids, who thrive on that energy. Serving breakfast and lunch 7 days a week, they especially love it when you bring your pups along.

Toukley Restaurants

Mexicoast Cantina
When someone says “where should we go for dinner?” in Toukley, Mexicoast Cantina is usually the answer. It’s bright, lively and always buzzing, with modern Mexican flavours, oh-so sippable margaritas and a relaxed coastal feel that makes it easy to settle in. This vibrant local cantina offers fresh, bold dishes, with all your faves covered: burritos, quesadillas, tacos, their signature Mexifries, plus prawn tostadas that you need in your life. And for a bit of fun, book a High T-Quila for your Saturday lunch!
But it’s not just about the food. It’s the music, the energy, the good times that happen without even trying. The team are passionate about bringing people together, creating a space where first-timers and regulars feel equally welcome (and where the first quickly become the second). Birthdays, catch-ups, spontaneous margi missions and everything in between… Mexicoast is loud enough to feel fun yet relaxed enough to feel familiar. You’ll want to come back again (and again).

Urban Coast
Owner Robert Dang took a big swing opening this Toukley restaurant in 2025 with his life savings, but the risk has paid off enormously – Urban Coast regularly books out, and word has spread all over the Central Coast that this is where you go for Modern Asian cuisine with soul. The menu is a mix of familiar comfort and flavourful surprises, with fresh rice paper rolls, a creamy coconut curry salmon, lemongrass pork skewers with the perfect char, and we can’t go past the rich, aromatic pho with slow-braised short rib, an authentic Vietnamese dish that reflects Robert’s heritage. That connection goes beyond the kitchen too, with Robert maintaining strong ties to his community in Vietnam and supporting charities both there and locally.

The Beachie
Welcome to paradise. Sitting right on the water, The Beachcomber Hotel & Resort — better known as The Beachie — is an iconic Central Coast destination with a tropical resort feel that’s hard to beat. With sweeping views across Budgewoi Lake, it offers boutique-style accommodation, an exclusive pool club, and a bistro that flows across multiple spaces
Food and drink is a big part of the appeal, with daily specials, regular live entertainment and plenty more reasons to stay for sunset drinks. And while the interiors are beautiful, all eyes are drawn to the outdoor area, which totally steals the show – big bold beach umbrellas, private cabanas, uninterrupted water views and a jetty stretching out over the lake, plus a kids’ playground tucked away on the lower level.
If you’re chasing the ultimate Central Coast staycation, this is it. No surprise The Beachie is in high demand for weddings and functions too.

ZIVA Eats & Pizza
With so many great places to eat these days, local clubs have really had to lift their game – and ZIVA shows how it’s done. This casual restaurant inside The Ary Toukley delivers modern club fare that feels fresh, featuring a Modern Australian menu with something for everyone. The space is contemporary and spacious, which makes it an easy pick for large families, catch-ups after sport, or mums’ groups (plenty of high chairs here). A solid option when you want a good feed close to home.

BB’s Soul Kitchen
The new kid on the block, BB’s Soul Kitchen is bringing Southern American comfort food to the Central Coast. The menu is a love letter to the southern states – shrimp and grits, hushpuppies, proper mac & cheese, and a decadent Mississippi mud cake you need to save room for.
Inside, the vibe is moodier than your average Toukley restaurant, which suits the food perfectly. Still early days as they only opened in December 2025, but if you’re craving comfort food with heartfelt Southern hospitality, this one’s already worth a look.

Sorrisos
Reopened in September 2025 under new owners, Sorrisos brings relaxed Italian dining to the heart of Toukley. With bright, welcoming interiors, it’s a popular pick from morning to night – fresh roasted coffee and pastries for brekkie, then rustic pastas and stone-baked pizzas for dinner. Add a well-chosen wine list and a thoughtful kids menu, and it’s easy to see why locals love it – relaxed, family-friendly and full of flavour.

Indian Coffee House & Restaurant
Technically in Canton Beach, not Toukley, but we had to include it here! Because anyone craving authentic Indian food needs to get themselves to the Indian Coffee House & Restaurant. Every dish is packed with flavour and tradition, from crisp dosas to creamy butter chicken, with the menu proudly centred on classic Indian favourites (and a small selection of Western options). The location’s a bonus too, with big glass windows so every table can take in the views south across Tuggerah Lake, or grab takeaway and enjoy it on the Canton Beach foreshore.

Beauty & Wellness in Toukley

Hearts & Minds Barber
This is one of those places that’s hard to explain until you’ve actually been. Yes, the cuts are sharp and the fades are on point, but Hearts & Minds has always been about more than just hair. Mental health, purpose and community sit at the core of everything they do. Founded by ex-Australian veteran Danny and his wife Laura, a long-time industry professional, they’ve built something genuinely meaningful – a safe space where people can let their guard down, connect, and walk out feeling stronger than when they walked in, with a fresh cut to match.
Ironically, for a place that cuts hair, Hearts & Minds is all about growth. The brand has evolved well beyond the shop floor, now running immersive programs for men focused on mindset, discipline, health, and personal development. These immersion experiences are designed to forge resilience, helping men reset, refocus and build clarity around their goals, habits and direction in life.
A welcoming space where good conversations matter just as much as good haircuts.

Open 24/7, they have a huge timetable of classes, personal training and a recovery zone with sauna and ice baths. It’s less about smashing PBs for show and more about showing up regularly and leaving feeling better than when you walked in.

Practical Info
Getting to Toukley from Sydney or Newcastle is a breeze by car – it’s a straightforward drive from the Sparks Road exit on the M1, or you can take the more scenic route along the Central Coast Highway if you’re not in a rush. Toukley sits on a narrow stretch of land between Budgewoi Lake and Tuggerah Lake, with the Pacific Ocean just over the eastern horizon.
There’s no train station nearby, so having a car definitely makes exploring easier, but if you’re relying on public transport most everything is within easy reach of a local bus stop.
Fun fact: Toukley was originally known as Toukley Oukley, believed to mean “rough on one side, smooth on the other,” possibly a nod to its spot between two lakes.
