So, How Much of A Coastie Are You? Here’s The Ultimate Central Coast Test

C’mon then, how much of a Coastie are you, really? If you know who Elvis is, rolled down the steepest hill in the region and nearly had your hand taken off by a pelican, you’re on the right track. 

Take our test to find out if you’re a true Coastie. Also, it doubles up as a pretty helpful guide of things to do on the Central Coast if you’re new to the area. Let’s go…

You’re a certified Coastie if you’ve…

1.Had a selfie with Norah Head Lighthouse

It’s the ultimate challenge. Can you get yourself and the Norah Head Lighthouse in one shot? Can you do it with the family and get everyone looking at the camera? Big points to those who have managed it. So Coastie. 

2. Rolled down The Skillion 

It’s a right of a passage for any young kid, teenager or free-spirited adult to give yourself up to gravity and roll down the grassy banks of The Skillion in Terrigal. Double points if you spotted whales before your roll. 

3. Said ‘whatsssup’ to Elvis 

You’ve visited the Australian Reptile Park at least once. Those who have captured, collected and taken a creepy crawly from their home to the Reptile Park team are so Coastie it hurts. And the old-timers still refer to Eric the Crocodile.

4. Visited a weekend market

If you haven’t dusted off your fedora, flowery dress and birks for a wander through one of the Coast’s markets, then where have you really been living? It’s the best way to support local on the Central Coast.

5. Completed the Putty to Macs walk 

It doesn’t count unless you’ve done the whole Bouddi Coastal Walk from Putty Beach to MacMasters Beach. Upgrade your status to Ultimate Coastie if you’ve managed to spot the super-friendly echidna at Putty. 

6. Gone sculpture searching

Seeing a Pete Rush driftwood sculpture is the ultimate in truly being resident of the Central Coast. Being one of the first to post it on socials, well, you’re in another level. We bow down.

7. Witnessed a sweet jetty sunrise

Got up at the break of dawn, sat on one of the jetties at Long Jetty and taken photos of the most incredible sunrise you’ll see on the Central Coast? Yeah, you’re such a Coastie. 

8. Got arty in Gossy 

Didn’t know there were beautiful Japanese-style gardens at the Gosford Regional Art Gallery and the Edogawa Commemorative Garden? Get visiting, stat. It’s a stunning spot and truly proves you have a Central Coast postcode. 

9. Taken an obligatory Somersby Falls social shot 

If you’ve not got a Somersby Falls shot on your socials, then can you really claim to be a Coastie? Get one on the feed stat and we’ll pretend it’s been there since forever. Double points for those who brave the cold waters.

10. Visited the Wyong Milk Factory

A visit just makes sense if you’re a Coastie. The Wyong Milk Factory has all the good stuff like Luka Chocolates, Little Creek Cheese, a jumping castle and multi-level indoor playspace. 11. Had a picnic at Crackneck Lookout

Coasties know the ultimate picnic spot on the Coast is at Crackneck Lookout. And those really in-the-know get their coffee and brunch or lunch to-go from Bateau Beach Cafe. Bonus points if you time it for when the whales are migrating. 

12. Got alternative in Long Jetty

You can tick this one off if you’ve had breakfast at Green Tangerine, done yoga at Komuniti or spent the day shopping all the way from Three Donkeys to Ellery & Moss. But we all know that true Coasties don’t have their photo next to the mural. Leave that for the tourists.

13. Know Ghosties isn’t a ghoul 

You’ve truly earned your stripes if you visited the absolutely stunning beaches in Munmorah State Conservation Area. We’re talking Ghosties, Frazer Beach and Birdie Nudist Beach for those who prefer bather-free sun-basking.

14. Swam at MacMasters ocean pool 

Okay, it’s not enough to just have done lengths at MacMasters. You’ve then got to be told by the peeps at Macs Beach Cafe that they don’t take card for your coffee, and then for them to always take card.

15. Gone Pelican feeding with the tourists

Pelican feeding at The Entrance is one more way to prove your certified Coastie status. If you’ve had a feeding experience with a slightly enthusiastic one (and nearly lost your hand) then you can level up your status for sure.
