Find out what the fuss is all about inside the little green box at Banana Blossom.
Forget Cool Cabanas and beach umbrellas, this summer there’s been a beach takeover of a whole new kind at Terrigal – the ‘little green box’.
If you’ve been down on the golden sands of Terrigal over the past few months then you’d know what we’re talking about. Mums, dads, teenagers, kids, grannies and even the odd pooch have been spotted burrowing their noses into these little green boxes to devour the delights packed inside, and not coming up until bellies are full and smiles are dialled.
The cause of this great new wave of culinary cool can be traced back up the beach, along Campbell Crescent and onto Church Street where you’ll most likely find a gathering of happy, hungry people who know where to go when they want what we’re crowning as the Coast’s best salad – at Banana Blossom.
Here you will find a selection of more than 16 salads, rice bowls and rice paper rolls that are a combination of Asian-inspired flavours and fresh local ingredients. On the menu are dishes like the Tokyo Classic, with green tea infused soba noodles, cucumber, cherry tomato, avocado, white sesame sweet soy dressing; or the Buddha’s Delight with crispy egg noodles, pineapple, green papaya, nashi pear, cashews, and sweet tamarind dressing. All dishes come with a protein option, including chicken, tofu, pork or a delicious Thai beef. But what Banana Blossom has brought to the Coast for the first time is a delectably enticing array of vegan, vegetarian and also gluten-free options, all found under the one roof.
We have local franchisees Mitch Galloway and Tegan Verity to thank for bringing Banana Blossom to the Central Coast at the end of last November. For those unfamiliar with the salad sensation story, Banana Blossom started on the Northern Beaches and soon became a local cult hit among those who are serious about good flavour, nutrition and value.
The team claim their dressings are the true heroes of their salads, derived from top secret recipes – one even dating back centuries. Their signature dressing recipe has been handed down from founder Nat’s great grandmother, who was serving up the famous Triple Chilli dressing more than 100 years ago in the village of Nakhon Si Thammarat in South Thailand.
Fast forward a good century and you’ll find those flavours at 12 different locations across Sydney and the Gold Coast, with Terrigal the latest hood to be treated with their tasty delights.
Franchisee Mitch told Coasties Mag Banana Blossom is for everyone.
“I will challenge anyone who says they don’t eat salad to not find something they will love in here,” he boasted, and we reckon he’s pretty spot on.
“We’ve been shocked in a really good way since opening – the locals just keep coming back, they’ve told us they really needed something like this in Terrigal. That just warms our hearts to hear,” he said.
Nothing is pre-made at Banana Blossom except for the rice paper rolls that are made just before the lunch rush each morning.
“Every single salad is made right in front of your eyes,” Mitch told us.
“It’s quick, healthy, great value and the most important thing is that it’s really delicious.”
Find out what all the fuss is about for yourself and head down to Banana Blossom next time your tummy rumbles.
