“My all-time favourite is the Jam Butterfly. It’s my take on the old school family favourite,” Kyla told Coasties.
“My version is our Vanilla Mud Cupcake. I cut the top off and fill the centre with our famous fluffy frosting. The top is then cut in half and placed on the frosting… dusted with icing sugar with a piped centre of delicious doughnut jam. Totally droolworthy.”
If that doesn’t make your mouth water, there’s Lemon Meringue, S’mores, Choc Mint, Turkish Delight, Caramilk, Biscoff, and the Fluffy White Cloud to please your palate.

There’re several ways to describe just how good Kyla’s delectable creations are, so you’ve really got to try them for yourself. She noted the focus isn’t only on presentation, but also nailing the flavours to “make your taste buds sing”.
“Being in an industry that revolves around trying to bring others joy is a wonderful thing,” Kyla said.
“One of the most regular compliments we receive is that our cakes and cupcakes not only look great but taste amazing.
“I put a lot of love into everything I make, so to hear that one of our products helps make an event extra special is a beautiful feeling.”

Nestled among a string of local Central Coast businesses on Watt Street in Gosford is where you’ll find the iconic Cakes by Kyla. It’s possible that you will first notice a snaking queue of dedicated fans, affectionally dubbed ‘cakies’, before you come across the iconic cake shop.
But don’t let lines deter you. Kyla is always prepared for crowds, sometimes starting her day as early as 2am even with a 9pm finish. The mum of three is the linchpin of the booming business that has attracted more than 85k social media followers and counting.
And although too humble to admit it, she uses her reach to promote other local businesses on the Central Coast – the region she has called home for the past 12 years.

Recipes are uniquely her own, and she operates all the tools and equipment to produce thousands of cupcakes, cakes, and other sweet treats daily with the help of her husband, who quit his full time job to commit to the trade.
What started off as a hobby making cakes that wouldn’t disturb her boys’ allergies has grown into a highly successful business reaching customers as far as Cambodia.
“Most of our customers are from the Central Coast but people come from all over the country. One regular comes from Dubbo, and another lovely lady uses her carry-on luggage for cupcakes every time she visits from WA,” Kyla said.

“Never in my wildest dreams did I ever think I would even own a business, let alone one that has the pleasure of being a part of so many family’s events,” Kyla said.
Like any small business venture, success was not without sacrifice. Falling asleep against the oven at work was the wake-up call she needed to prioritise a work-life balance – something she vows to maintain despite being busier than ever. The passionate ‘cakie queen’ is forever grateful for the ongoing support of her family, friends, and, of course, her “cakie community”.
