Family-friendly venues with playgrounds could quite possibly be the best thing since sliced bread. We think so at least! Especially during those long and seemingly too-frequent school holiday periods. On the Central Coast, we’re lucky that there is a bunch of quality pubs, clubs and cafes with playgrounds to choose from. From the newly renovated to the timeless classics that have kept many a little one occupied whilst the mums and dads enjoy some brief moments of sanity.
If you know of any venues we haven’t included in this list feel free to DM us over at our Insta @coastiesmag so we can include them in this list. And, don’t forget to tag us when you visit!
Central Coast Pubs with Playgrounds

Bateau Bay Hotel
If you’ve got kids and you live on the Coast, chances are you already visit Bateau Bay Hotel on the reg. You could practically hear the cheer from Coastie families when the 2024 renos wrapped up – and for good reason. The undercover playground is huge with a capital H, conveniently located in the beer garden near the outdoor tables, and next to the famous hill that every kid just loves to roll or run down. Add face painting from 12pm every weekend and free kids activities during school holidays, and it’s no wonder this place is a fave when looking for a family-friendly pub on the Central Coast.
Food’s a winner too, with cheap pub meals for the whole fam and all-day dining – so no stress if the kids took 30 minutes to put their shoes on. They’re open from 10am daily, so you can grab a barista-made coffee if you’ve got early risers, and if you ever manage to line up a babysitter, Lumby’s Street Food offers adults-only alfresco dining for something a bit different. We adore our kids, but it’s nice when a venue remembers the adults too.
65 Lumby Dr, Bateau Bay
Kincumber Hotel
This Central Coast pub is a definite fave among families. The playground is massive, still fairly new, and caters to kids of all ages, with family-friendly dining within shouting distance. There’s also a smaller grassed area with tables and umbrellas, plus bright, bathing-box-inspired shapes along the fence that give the whole space a bit of a holiday feel. Food’s easy thanks to a full bistro menu, and the huge tree is still there – there’s always at least one kid climbing it.
Kincumber Hotel is the perfect destination after a bike ride or walk along the Four Villages Shipbuilders’ Heritage Walk (better known as the Kincumber to Davistown walk). On weekends there’s face painting from midday, and during school holidays they run heaps of kids’ activities too, which makes it even easier to hang around.

Hawkesbury Brewing Co, Lisarow
Tucked away in Lisarow, Hawkesbury Brewing Co might feel like a surprise find, but for families it’s a bit of a secret weapon. This brewery pub welcomes families and encourages them to have fun, the indoor kids’ play zone and newly fitted basketball half-court makes it a standout for parents. Positioned off to the side of the stage and visible from most tables, kids can dive into board-games, arcade-style games, soft-play, and books while adults actually get to sit and relax. Add in kids meal deals for just $9, kids eating free on Monday Movie Nights (along with the obligatory complimentary pop-corn), live music, quiz-nights and weeknight dinner deals, and it’s an easy win for a low-stress family outing where everyone leaves happy.

Chittaway Bay TavernÂ
This is truly a hidden gem, and Chittaway Bay Tavern became a fast fave with Central Coast families after word got out about their renovated kids play area. The play equipment is all gorgeous timber, varied and spread out nicely, encouraging kids to use their imaginations and play together. The beer garden that overlooks the play area has a light and airy feel, and you can easily forget you’re on the corner of a main intersection. With live music most weekends and quality food it’s the perfect spot to spend a Sunday arvo.

Best Cafes with Playgrounds on the Central Coast

The Pantry, Forresters Beach
If you want to bring the kiddos but still enjoy yourself, head to The Pantry. Their bright, colourful play equipment is great for wriggly toddlers, with tunnels, slides and cubbies to keep them busy while you actually get to sit down. It’s tucked around the corner from their gorgeous alfresco dining area, so it’s close enough to keep an eye on things without feeling like you’ve crashed someone’s fancy brunch. There’s always lots of excitement and happy kids who aren’t stuck at the table. Our tip: come on a Tuesday, when kids eat free with every adult brunch.
It’s an easy one for prams, groups and long catch-ups, with space to spread out and food that works for kids and adults. Bonus points if you’re bringing the dog – they’ll walk away with a treat too.
Shop 5/960 The Entrance Rd, Forresters Beach
Jasmine Greens Park Kiosk, Umina
This is our go-to when the kids need space (and we need coffee!). The main playground at Jasmine Greens has heaps to keep the kids entertained – pirate ship, slides, cubbies, swings, sandpit and more, all fully-fenced and ready for hours of imaginative play. Kiddos of all ages can all play safely at the same time, and if you let the bigger ones roam a little further they’ll find an enormous climbing net, giant slide and a bouldering wall.
Open from 7am daily, it’s relaxed kid-friendly dining with a menu that keeps everyone happy and prices that don’t make you flinch. They also have a community garden on site, and provide free barista training and cooking classes to local kids. Right near Umina Beach, the skate park and the markets, it’s an easy stop when you’re already out – or the perfect destination on those days when everyone’s a bit cranky and you just need a reliable reset spot.

Better Days Cafe, Tumbi Umbi
Better Days is one we often suggest for mothers’ groups on the Central Coast. The indoor play area feels calm and welcoming, with open-ended toys that create a real invitation to play – you’ll notice little ones naturally gravitate towards it. Everything’s been carefully selected with safety in mind, engaging enough to keep little hands busy without tipping into chaos. It’s easy to supervise and works well for babies, toddlers and mixed-age groups. Take a breath and let your shoulders drop knowing your kids are entertained and playing independently for a bit.
Every coffee and meal supports a bigger purpose too. Better Days is a not-for-profit social enterprise cafe helping locals, so every order does a bit of good while keeping customers fed and caffeinated. Feel-good food in the best possible way.

Tame Fox, Erina
The playground at The Tame Fox is the real deal. There are two cubbies connected by a bridge, slides, a row boat, climbing frame, chalkboards, trucks and heaps of room to move. Plenty of opportunities for kids to start playing together while the grown-ups relax. And they’re genuinely entertained here, not just temporarily distracted – at least until the milkshakes arrive, then all bets are off. The ‘Foxy Cubs’ kids menu is a hit too, which itself doubles as colouring-in to buy you a little extra sitting time.
There are loads of tables, including seating inside the fenced play area and more spread around outside, so you’re never scrambling for a spot. They’re open early and it’s easy to settle in for brekkie or brunch while the kids burn off some of that seemingly-endless energy.

The Secret Cafe, Charmhaven
The secret’s out – if you want space, you want The Secret Cafe. The fully fenced playground (refurbed in 2023) is the obvious drawcard, with slides, cubby house and climbing to keep kids busy, but it doesn’t stop there. They’ve also got a huge grassy yard, undercover seating and a fenced dog park, so everyone has somewhere to go. On a sunny day, try to nab one of the picnic tables under the maple trees. It’s relaxed and easy, and we find it works especially well for longer catch-ups where kids get to move around without feeling on top of each other (or you).
170 Pacific Hwy, Charmhaven

Parklife Coffee TerrigalÂ
The sensational playground next to Parklife makes this cafe an institution. Set alongside the Terrigal Lagoon (hi ducks!), it’s got heaps to explore – a flying fox, swings, spinner, slides, a pirate ship with planks and blocks to balance on, or watch the kids make up their own games as they roam amongst the trees. A popular hangout for mums and dads craving their caffeine fix with space for the kids to run about and expend all their pent-up energy, there’s normally a birthday party or two happening – but it never feels crowded. Grab a picnic blanket and order a kids snack pack, this is one not to miss.

If weather-proof parenting had a headquarters, this would be it. The indoor playground on The Gardens level is fully enclosed, easy to supervise and designed for serious kid energy, with tunnels, slides, climbing zones and a dedicated space for littler adventurers. Davistown RSL (The Davo)
If family-friendly venues had a mascot, The Davo would be wearing a captain’s hat. If you’re coming from Woy Woy or Empire Bay, you can make your arrival an adventure by arriving by ferry, an instant win with kids. Once there, settle in while little legs tear loose on the outdoor playground and sprawling grassed area out back, overlooking the water. Add movie nights, live music and regular events, and you’ve got a venue that truly understands family fun. It’s best enjoyed on a sunny day, as the outdoor areas are not undercover.
