Most of us have taken a visit to Avoca Beach rock pool but if you’re looking for a secret rock pool on the Central Coast, we’ve found it. If you follow the cliff edge around if going south then you’ll find epic rock pools of all shapes and sizes on a large cliff edge. It is safe for children if kept away from the cliff edge which sees waves hit quite regularly. Visit at low tide and the little pools of water are generally pretty warm. This is where all the cool kids head when the sun is setting.

The crystal blue waters of Norah Head will be enough to have you returning again and again. On the south end of Cabbage Tree Bay you’ll find an almost perfect circle of rocks sheltering a body of water ready for your kids to dunk their heads in. The Norah Head rock pool really is a great spot for kids of all ages to explore, but if you head towards Norah Head Lighthouse there is a whole stretch of rock pools that are teaming with fish and crabs. And keep an eye out as the ocean here is filled dolphins who like to put on a impromptu show.

Terrigal Haven has been given a fresh refurb with its 277 metre boardwalk which wraps around the headland. Here you can visit a rock pool set up for swimming or keep walking to Terrigal Haven, where you’ll find a whole range of rock pools of all different shapes and sizes.  Once you’ve finished enjoying the rock pool, follow the boardwalk back to the main promenade and enjoy lunch at one of the cafes or grab some fish and chips under the shady trees in the park.

4. Little Bay

Just south of Toowoon Bay you’ll find a slightly smaller bay appropriately named, Little Bay. While this part of the Central Coast isn’t a rock pool per se, it has all the fixings for a kid-friendly adventure. Where the curves hug the coastline, a semi-circle of rocks creates a natural shelter from the ocean making it an ideal spot for kids to froclick about in the water. As the rocks spill into the water your children will be able to explore the many nooks and crannies Little Bay has to offer while you take advantage of the wide open sand.

If you don’t mind working up a little bit of a sweat to reach a slice of paradise then Frazer Beach is just the ticket for you and the kids. Nestled behind the dense bushland of the Munmorah State Conservation Area you’ll find the secluded Frazer Beach. At the top and tail of the cove unique rock formations are dimpled into the coast making some great natural pools. If you don’t fancy heading home at the end of the day there’s a national park campsite complete with BBQs, showers and toilets ready to accommodate an epic camp trip for the family.

Found within Bouddi National Park is Little Beach. It’s found at the bottom of a 20 minute track near MacMasters Beach. If you visit at low tide, you’ll find plenty of rockpools of all different sizes. Top tip, if you’ve got jelly shoes then this is the spot to wear them as some of the rocks here are sharp. And take note of the tides as this is a surfers beach with epic waves.

8. North Avoca

An absolutely favourite with young kids, the cliff edge of North Avoca creates endless plunge pools. Kids love digging little tunnels to change the direction of the water, and catching little fish with their net. An incredible spot at sunset.
