Behind the scenes of the Gina & Matty Breakfast Show on Star 104.5
If you’ve been tuning into our socials here at Coasties Mag, you’ll have noticed that over the past few months, we’ve pretty much become adopted members of the Star 104.5 family. And, just quietly, we couldn’t be more thrilled with this. When we said that Coasties Mag and Star104.5 were a match made in heaven we weren’t lying!
From joining the Gina & Matty Breakfast Show weekly in studio on Friday mornings for our Central Coast Weekender segment to tagging along on the Back to School tour with the breaky hosts, the legends that are the Star All Stars and not forgetting the rest of the production team of magicians that all play a hand in delivering listening pleasure to your ears every morning. To the most recent cherry on top; broadcasting live at Brian Hilton Skoda in North Gosford where Star 104.5’s Gina & Matty gave away their Cash Car to a deserving winner. That’s right, they gave away a brand new 2024 Skoda Kamiq valued at over 32k! As well as $5,000 in the glove box. Almost 300 local Central Coast listeners, armed with keys and a chance at winning, came along on the morning to walk the red carpet and test their key.
The lucky winner, Danielle Swain from Long Jetty, a support worker said: “It means the world to me. I’ve been a single mum for ten years, and I’ve never had anything brand new, to be able to get to work in a brand-new car will be amazing. And this time of year is always hard coming into Christmas.”
Programme director Shayne Sinclair commented: “Moments like these remind us all about how much of a meaningful difference radio can make to the community. Danielle from Long Jetty won the car she needs, and the cash she deserves.”
Now, seeing as though we have become part of Star 104.5’s furniture, we thought we’d share some inside scoop on what it’s really like behind the scenes at the Star 104.5 Breakfast Show with Gina & Matty. For any of you out there expecting some scandalous gossip, we hate to disappoint you. We have nothing but epic things to report from the only live, local and most loved station on the Coast.
Star 104.5 Gina & Matty Breakfast Show
Walking into Star 104.5’s Erina studio feels like stepping into the control centre of a lively, non-stop operation. There’s so much more happening than what you hear on the radio. Producer CJ and the team behind Gina and Matty are always juggling what seems to be 100 balls in the air at once. We always leave the studio in awe of the work these guys do. Between managing phone lines from eager listeners to lining up the next song to tallying up on-air competitions (like breaky bangers), to calming the nerves of the radio rookies (that’s us) who join them each Friday, to pulling off world-class pranks, the way they keep everything flowing so effortlessly is incredible. The Gina & Matty Breakfast is a well-oiled machine, yet the atmosphere is always fun and light-hearted, thanks to Gina and Matty’s natural chemistry and the fact that these two are the most beautiful, kind and genuine people you’ll ever meet. Every weekday morning, the pair bring their infectious personalities, local knowledge, and fun to thousands of listeners.
So let’s dive deeper into who exactly Gina & Matty are!
Gina Jeffreys, a Central Coast local, is not only a radio star but also a country music icon. She’s a platinum-selling artist who has shared the stage with legends like Johnny Cash! She lives on the Coast with her husband, renowned record producer Rod McCormack, and their talented musician son Jacky. Gina also runs a successful music school ‘Gina Jeffreys Academy of Music’ and despite her accolades, Gina is down-to-earth, with a sweet but cheeky personality that listeners love.
Matt Baseley more affectionately known as Matty, is a proud as-punch dad of 3 and an avid sports lover who has built a career in both radio and television. When he’s not entertaining the Central Coast on air, he’s one of the country’s most sought-after MCs. You’ll see his friendly face on Channel 7’s Sydney Weekender. And if that wasn’t enough, he is also a ground announcer at major sporting events for franchises including the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles, Cricket Australia, Sydney Sixers, NSW Waratahs, Rugby Australia and more. Matty’s experience in the industry shows in his effortless ability to connect with both celebrities and everyday locals.
The Central Coast Weekender segment takes place every Friday morning, usually between about 740 and 840am and is the go-to source for Coasties with what’s happening across the Central Coast the coming weekend.
