Who doesn’t love a “best of” list or seeing the highlight reel of the year that was?  We’ll admit it, we love a good little montage over here at Coasties Mag.  Especially when it’s showcasing our fabulous region and its natural beauty. And, in this case, also includes some of the exciting brand new and soon-to-be-new developments and openings on the Central Coast.  So, whilst we’ve moved on to greeting everyone we see with a “Happy New Year”, let’s take a little minute to look back at the year that 2023 was on the Central Coast with our top 9 most like photos.

It is clear to see why the Central Coast recently made it into the Top 10 Travel Destinations to visit in Australia and took out the gold award at the Business NSW Tourism Awards in 2023. With exquisite beaches, scenery, nature-based activities, and shopping as well as the region is fast becoming a world-class foodie destination, the list of things to do on the Central Coast is endless.

We think that our Top 9 Most Like Photos of 2023 on the Central Coast as decided on by the readers of Coasties Mag are a perfect depiction of what the Central Coast has to offer.  Not forgetting a special shout out to all those local photographers and businesses who consistently contribute to making our Insta grid look extra pretty.  All of these legends have been credited down below so make sure to give them a follow and show them your support.

 

 

1. Long Jetty

As pictured above, taken by one of the Central Coast’s most respected photographers, the one and only Jim Picot.  Our summer storm season kicked off with a bang (excuse the pun) and this dramatic image of the storm cell over Long Jetty back in November was captured so perfectly by Jim.  Our readers agreed with nearly 1000 of you get this bad boy the double tap.

2. Bateau Bay

Whats on central Coast

News from local Toowoon-based architecture firm Fabric Architecture that finally the DA for the redevelopment of the extremely popular Bateau Bay Hotel had been approved, had everyone talking!  Already a crowd-pleasing venue, especially for families due to having a fab kids playground and great food (hello win-win for the whole fam) we do not doubt that the new look Palm Springs-esque style and the new menu will mean this will be one of the most highly anticipated new openings of 2024.

3. Spoon Bay, Wamberal

There is no surprise that a snap by the legendary Chris Flaxman of @fromabove.images has made the top 3 in our most liked photos of the Central Coast in 2023. It is one of  Chris’ images of Toowoon Bay that graces our most recent Summer 2023/2024 issue of Coasties Mag.  With an keen eye for local beach and ocean scenes his images always capture the Central Coast in the most stunning way.

4. MacMasters Beach

The summer of 2022 – 2023 saw the end of La Niña (thank goodness) and the rise of the most perfect summery beach days here on the Central Coast.  Locals and holiday goers alike all enjoying long days by the water at the plethora of Central Coast beaches to choose from.

Gail MacDiarmid of @gailmacdrone capturing this epic image of the rock pools at MacMasters Beach. As titled by her on her Insta “Another Day in Paradise” and we coouldn’t agree more.   With a unique take on land and seascapes it’s no wonder that one of Gail’s image was featured in our recent article on Bucket List Things to Do on the Central Coast in our Spring print issue of the Coasties Mag.

5 & 7. Terrigal

Talking of highly anticipated openings, it was evident that the froth levels of our readers were at an all time high for the “just in time for Summer” opening of the Terrigal Pavilion in Terrigal.  Taking out 2 spots in the Top 9 most liked photos of 2023. The above image by Isaac Tseng of Clockwork Studio and below artist impression renders of the coming multi level venue.

Opening to the crowds in early December the Pav as it’s fondly known is a pop up venue at Terrigal Haven that’s already proven a winner.  Full contruction due to start this year.

6. Hawkesbury River Bridge

It’s the image that went viral for us on Facebook and Instagram!  Reaching over 162k people this image had some crazy engagement with likes, shares and comments going off.

Looking back toward Sydney of the Hawksbury Bridge and the road to the greatest place to live in the world, the Central Coast, obviously. Taken by one of our fave’s Jacqueline Green of @above_central_coast_

8. Gosford

Yes!  Another reopening that Coasties love. 2023 has been a year where we have been treated to some stellar refurbishments and revamps. The new Central Coast Leagues club in Gosford being aboslutely transformed into a world class destination of a venue.

9. Erina

Our love of amazing food here on the Central Coast continues to be satisfied. And if it’s dumplings you crave then Soph’s your gal.  Rounding out the list of our readers most liked photos of 2023 on the Central Coast was the opening of Soph’s Dumplings in Erina in late October.

One we’d been keeping our eye on for a luittle while.  What started out as a order online/pop up/side hustle/passion project has now morphed into a full blown bustling eatery that sells out on the regular.  Congratulations Soph!
