Yum Cha is simply a long rolling brunch involving Chinese tea and dim sum that is a Cantonese tradition. It generally involves small portions of dim sum that can be steamed, pan fried and deep fried, served in bamboo steamers. Yum Cha literally translated to ‘drink tea’ and it is a social gathering over food with family or friends, usually involving a large group. But no judgement if you rock up solo and demolish the dim sum purely by yourself.

1. The Lucky Bee, Hardy’s Bay

Our top spot for Yum Cha has to be The Lucky Bee in Hardy’s Bay, with their lunch menu featuring thirteen small plates. This is a mix of Chinese and Vietnames fare, with katsu chicken bao buns, soft shell crab, betel leaf tour and papaya salad. But really, the drawcard here is the steamed scallop dumplings. They’ll have you coming back for more, for sure.

Opening in November 2021, Ming Dragon is an authentic experience. Seriously, don’t le the fact it is found within the Mingara Recreation Club put you off. Ming Dragon offers a huge range of authentic dim sum dishes. There’s about 40 different dishes to choose from, including scallop and prawn dim sum, salt and pepper tofu and chicken and chive dumplings. Delish.
