Plain Janes Long Jetty
Is it really a visit to Long Jetty without a pop in to Plain Janes?! We think not, especially now their new era has begun.
There is no doubt that Plain Janes has always been an institution and an integral part of the Long Jetty shopping trail. But quietly in the background in October of last year, a changing of the guards was taking place right under our noses. Local mum of two Britney Woods and her partner took over the reins at Plain Janes in Long Jetty in October 2023.
Britney shared with Coasties, “Little did we know how arduous the process of buying a business would be. A bit over a year from when we found out the business was for sale our offer got accepted and it finally became ours. We were over the moon!”
With more than 10 years of experience in the fashion industry (notably at Who Mag and Harrods in London), new owner and buyer Britney has a palpable passion and excitement to continue on the legacy of this iconic store, which was founded by sisters April and Amelia back in 2014. Cementing its iconic status Plain Janes celebrates its 10th birthday, as a bricks and mortar, retail store this year. Nothing to sneeze at especially considering three of those 10 years were “pandemic’d” (yes, that is a word we just made up). Plain Janes ticks every box when it comes to a sublime shopping experience.
As you enter the store the crisp interiors and beautiful bright smiles welcome you. You’re able to mooch around at leisure while you select your pieces. Stocking mostly Australian fashion and lifestyle brands, with a small international contingent, as well as (and most importantly) stocking and supporting local brands and creators too. Plain Janes is the place to go to for a little bit of everything. We’re talking gifts, cute kids toys and clothes, jewellery, shoes, fashion and more. Plus they also do gorgeous and free gift wrapping which is always appreciated.

Shopping at Plain Janes in Long Jetty
There is always fresh and beautiful stock in store (dangerous for the wallet, we know) with new arrivals coming in weekly. This also means that when we pop in for a purchase of some shoes we walk out with books, gifts and/or beach picnic essentials. Because, well, as we said, essentials!
So what’s next for Plain Janes?
“We have a focus on growing our online store, looking to ship Australia-wide as well as to New Zealand, Europe, the UK, the US and Canada. So, basically global expansion!” explained Britney.
It’s no small feat for a retail store in little old Long Jetty, but couple a clear vision with the powerhouse Plain Janes team executing it and we can just sense that this new era for the store is going to be one to remember.
Plain Janes is located toward the southern end of the main Long Jetty drag, nestled between neighbours who offer pampering, caffeine, sustenance and more delightful shopping. The way the team at PJ’s sees it (and quite frankly we agree) a visit to the store truly deserves a whole day trip. Trust us, you will not be disappointed.
