This Copa kiosk has taken beachside takeaway to a whole new level and is bound to leave you coming back for more!

If you’ve ever spent time at Copacabana there’s a good chance you’ve grabbed a drink or an ice cream from Artie’s Place, the kiosk downstairs from the surf club. What you might not have realised yet is that the business is under new management, and has a cracking new menu just in time for those summer beach days and is raising the bar when it comes to dining out in Copa, offering an a la carte menu for those summer nights.

For new owner Elyse Vella it’s a labour of love; she bought the business from her aunty who had decided it was time to move on, but was pleased to be able to keep it in the family.
“The venue is named after my Uncle Artie who passed away 12 years ago, so there’s a lot of love in that and I’m excited about being able to carry the business on in his name and take it to the next level,” Elyse said.

Having grown up eating fish ‘n’ chips at Copa Beach herself, maintaining a relaxed beach-style takeaway was really important to Elyse but with her experience as a chef across kitchens in Melbourne, the Whitsundays, Byron Bay and the Victorian ski fields not to mention local gem Bells at Killcare, she’s put a modern spin on things and really raised the bar!

We’re talking gourmet burgers on freshly made milk buns. Think southern fried chicken (or mushrooms as a vegetarian option) with lettuce, American-style cheddar and ranch dressing. Burgers can be ordered as a ‘bowl’ for those watching their carb intake. The prawns are reminiscent of something you’d expect from Hawaii’s famous shrimp trucks and come in a takeaway cone, ready to be planted in the sand while you sit back and enjoy.

The coffee hasn’t been forgotten either. Artie’s Place has switched to Amber Organic beans, locally roasted in Lisarow and guaranteed to satisfy. And if you want breakfast with that coffee, how about smashed avo on local fig and walnut sourdough?

What we’re loving most though, is that Artie’s Place is now open Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights over summer, upstairs in the surf club offering the full dine-in experience with ocean views. The a la carte menu will change from week to week, depending on what delicious seasonal produce takes Elyse’s fancy but you know it’s going to be modern and fresh. This weekend it’s Italian which means options like panzanella salad, pan-fried barramundi and panna cotta for dessert.
