The Central Coast was one of Australia’s first awarded ECO Destinations, certified by Ecotourism Australia. With our breathtaking natural landscapes, countless National Parks, diverse wildlife, endless beaches and commitment to sustainability, we are so proud to call the Central Coast home.

As we all become more aware of the impact of human activity on the environment, sustainability has become a necessary priority. We caught up with the small, local businesses and their hero owners whose focus is eco and every day promote sustainability within their ventures and our region. And, all without cutting quality.  These businesses are leading the charge.

Full Circle Farm, Dooralong

A pasture-based, regenerative farm located in Dooralong Valley where the food produced doesn’t destroy the planet, but actually improves and regenerates it. From the soil to the sky, Shannon and Kylie Kelly, along with their young children, have created a haven of sustainable farming.

They produce grass-fed and finished beef, pasture-raised chicken, and pastured eggs, all of which have as many nutrients as possible. Full Circle Farm has created a highly sustainable cycle so we can relax knowing we are supporting a local family whilst getting top quality products.

Tiki La La, Long Jetty

Sustainable by nature April and Heath have created a sanctuary of eco-friendly vintage design, unique fashion and eclectic sounds, online and at their boutique in Long Jetty. By specialising in second hand items, Tiki La La promotes the idea of reusing and recycling. Their impressive collection of homewares are all sourced from their travels, saved from going to landfill and instead create a stunning addition for our homes. Each piece has a story to tell.

Very soon you will be able to shop high quality fashion items, including basics and statement pieces, all sustainably sourced and ethically made, as well as considered and handmade beauty and gifting items. Being eco friendly doesn’t mean you have to skip on style!

Kalula Swimwear, Coastwide

Kalula’s mission is to liberate, support and transform how full busted women look and feel in swimwear, all whilst promoting conscious consumerism. They do not participate in fast fashion; instead, Kalula’s high quality fabrics are developed with recycled nylon, which means that instead of manufacturing new fabrics, they use materials that are readily available and that could otherwise go to landfill.

Each release is a limited edition to purposefully maintain uniqueness, reduce waste, engage a skilled workforce and ensure sustainability is a priority.

In addition, their packaging, bikini liners and stickers are compostable, the branded wrapping is made from recycled paper, the bikini liners and stickers are biodegradable, plus the swing tags and thank you cards can be planted to grow beautiful wildflowers! Kalula hasn’t missed a trick.

Rigatoni for Toni, Coastwide

Founder and Creative Director Tristan Fraser’s passion for eating seasonally, sustainably and locally is how Rigatoni for Toni was born. During the lockdown of ’20 his idea became a reality as he started rolling out dough for takeaway pasta nights at his good mates’ café in Avoca (Like Minds). Since then the collaborations have continued, the menu expanded to more than just pasta and the eco focus has been ramped up. The vision of being an entirely sustainable takeaway option taking flight.

Sourcing his produce locally, ethically and regeneratively goes without saying, but Toni has stepped it up a notch and also uses bio-degradable packaging along with researching suppliers and companies’ sustainability practises before utilising their products. All this making for the most incredibly, superb and mouth-wateringly delicious meals.

Coco Parle Hair Gallery, Gosford

The inclusive hair salon not only helps you look and feel beautiful but minimises the impact on the planet whilst doing so. The team has incorporated eco-friendly practices into every aspect of their work.

They partner with an organisation called Sustainable Salons, who collects their hair, plastic, chemical, foil and paper waste, and have diverted over 370,000kg of metal from landfill, recycled over 400,000kg of paper and kept over 350,000kg of plastic in circulation. Talk about some serious impact!

All towels and gloves are biodegradable plus they ensure the hair care brands used follow the same eco-conscious ethics and are free from any chemicals that can harm your hair or the environment.

Owner Corine commented; “There has never been any doubt that sustainability has to be at the heart of everything Coco Parlé does.”
