Cinema Under the Stars Gosford
Newcastle Permanent’s fan-favourite event is back this summer, offering entertainment and a feature film for everyone under the stars at Gosford’s Central Coast Stadium.
Long days at the beach, barbecues with friends and seeking new boredom busting adventures to entertain the kids are what we love about summer holidays on the Coast. But if you’re worried that by January the inspiration and the wallet will start to wear thin, then Newcastle Permanent’s Cinema Under the Stars is just the ticket to family fun you’re after.
After a pandemic provoked two-year hiatus, the free community event is back, and it’s going to be a ripper.
Kicking off at Central Coast Stadium at 5:30pm on Saturday, January 14, there will be live music, roving entertainers and a swag of interactive games for kids of all ages on offer.
Once the kids have worn themselves out, the big screen will light up with a twilight screening of the feature film Sing 2, just in time for families to roll out their picnic blankets, feast on the free popcorn and settle in for a treat.
Sing 2 is a favourite for all ages – the toe-tapping jukebox musical from 2021 features Buster Moon and his cast of mates, all animal performers, who go on an adventure while preparing to launch a dazzling stage show. There’s just one hitch though – Buster has to find and persuade a reclusive rock star to join them on their journey.
The animated film features the superstar voices of U2’s Bono, Reese Witherspoon, Matthew McConaughey, Tori Kelly and Taron Egerton, and will have the crowd humming along to hits like Elton John’s Yellow Brick Road and U2’s Your Song Saved My Life.

The event is made possible by the generous gang at Newcastle Permanent, who are looking forward to welcoming the whole community.
Gosford Branch Manager Lorraine Gould said the event, which has been running for more than a decade on the Coast, was a favourite fixture on the local event calendar.
“It really is a brilliant way to bring the community together, especially after two interrupted years,” Ms Gould said.
“I love that the Stadium is a big safe space for the kids to run around and enjoy, while the parents can sit back with their picnics and catch up. Even the teenagers love it!”
Originally held at the Haven at Terrigal, the event has been such a success it’s shifted to the larger facilities of the Stadium. This year’s fun summer night out is expected to draw a crowd of hundreds of happy people.
“Cinema Under the Stars is an annual tradition, it’s a date families mark on their calendars and look forward to all summer,” Ms Gould said.
“The driving force behind this event is the community. It’s all about bringing families and friends of all ages together for a really fun, wholesome afternoon that just creates such a lovely atmosphere. There haven’t been a lot of big community events, and the fact that it’s outdoors really appeals to people now too.”
