Would you give up one day to change someone’s life?
That is the question Ryan Wilson, owner of Terrigal Electrical Services, asked himself back in 2017 which sparked a movement that would help hundreds of Central Coast locals in the years to follow.
If you haven’t yet heard about ‘Free Trade Day’, please read on – this is an initiative worth being a part of.
An annual occurrence, ‘Free Trade Day’ is a day-long event aimed at bringing the community together to help those in need.
Whether you are a tradie who can spare the day, a person in need of some help around your house, you know someone you could nominate or you’re a business who can help through sponsorship, this is a day worth being a part of.
‘Free Trade Day’ is coming back bigger and better than ever in 2022 after a two year COVID related hiatus, and Ryan and his team are planning on making this a year to remember.
So, how and why did this all begin? The concept was first discussed after completing a job for a 96-year old war veteran who went without hot water for 18 months because he wasn’t in a physical or financial position to have the electrical fault in his hot water system fixed and showered with cold water for that entire time.
The realisation that there must be so many other individuals in the same position quickly came to life and pushed Ryan and his colleagues to do something about it.
NOMINATE SOMEONE IN NEED
Are you, or do you have a friend, neighbour, colleague or family member who may be;
- Financially struggling
- Experiencing personal hardship
- Living without essential services
- Has safety issues in their home
Nominate them via the website (details below).
CALLING ALL TRADIES
If you are a tradie who would like to experience a real sense of worth and an understanding of community charity and making a difference, volunteer your time and expertise in your trade.
Here’s a few extra reasons why you might like to get involved;
- You get to break the news to someone that you’re going to change their life!
- All registered trade businesses go onto our Free Trade Day website & will get shout outs on local radio!
- Helping people makes you feel good!
- You’re in charge of how much work you do, and it can be as little as a couple of hours.
- Material on jobs will be claimable and funded back through Lions Club of Terrigal-Wamberal so you’re not paying for anything!
- All Free Trade Day registered businesses go into the running to win a Free I-Pad!
On 26 August, Free Trade Day will take place. Due to the overwhelming support and growth of this event, Ryan has handed over the organisation and coordination to the Lions Club Terrigal-Wamberal who will assist in facilitating the day.
If you’d like to find out more, wish to volunteer your time, donate or nominate someone for some much needed help – visit the Free Trade Day website or socials.
