Chasing a bushwalk on the Central Coast that feels quietly impressive? The loop from Pearl Beach Arboretum to Warrah Lookout is one of those walks that surprises you at every turn.
This one comes recommended by our resident Weekend Walk legend, Dana Chantler of @cennycoasthikes, who has a knack for finding walks that tick the boxes for families and anyone keen for a bushwalk fix without going full-day hike mode.
Hike the Pearl Beach Arboretum to Warrah Lookout Loop
Start this especially peaceful walk from Opal Close, near the main entrance to the Crommelin Arboretum. Established in 1976, this beautiful five-hectare native forest is free to visit, volunteer-run, and dedicated to protecting rare and threatened plant species. It’s a gentle, grounding way to kick off your walk.
After traversing the arboretum and reaching Crystal Avenue, cross the road past the gate and you’ll find yourself on the Pearl Beach/Patonga Fire Trail. There’s a short uphill section here – mildly strenuous, but nothing dramatic – before the trail really starts to show off.
Keep an eye out to the left for some pretty cool rock formations, then further along you’ll stumble upon a massive sandstone cave sitting right beside the track. Breath-taking doesn’t really do it justice. It’s one of those stop-you-in-your-tracks moments that a photo simply can’t capture.

Follow the trail onwards to a crossing and you’ll arrive at Warrah Lookout, where yet another ‘take your breath away’ moment awaits. The views from this fenced lookout stretch across Palm Beach and Patonga, and it’s the kind of vista that makes you happy to stay a while.
From here, you can continue on towards Patonga if you’re feeling energetic, or loop back and head home the way you came – totally your call.

Keep your eyes peeled for wildlife along the way. If you’re lucky, you might spot echidnas, king parrots or even a lyrebird doing its thing. This walk is an absolute little gem – ocean views, caves, wildlife and beautiful forest all rolled into one.
