Best Places for High Tea on The Central Coast

Freshly baked scones, neat finger sandwiches and a glass of bubbles, is there anything better than an afternoon spent having high tea?

And if you’re looking for a spot on the Central Coast, then here’s the absolute finest places to visit for a spot of afternoon tea.

1. Kew Dining High Tea

Kew Dining, found next to the Ken Duncan Gallery, has got a name for itself for its outstanding breakfast offering. But really, everyone should be shouting loud and proud about the high tea at Kew. It’s $59 a head, and is served as savoury first then sweet after, with a glass of house sparkling and a tea of your choice. Each item is carefully created, with zingy lemon tarts, light mini scones and mini corn fritters. Everything is delicious.

2. Cake & Plate

Found in Niagara Park, Cake & Plate are best known for their outstanding birthday cakes. But they also do a sit-down afternoon tea if pre-booked. It comes with the lightest macaroons, a hearty cupcake, a few savoury treats and savoury and sweet scones. Cost is $40 a head.

3. Pullman Magenta Shores

The offering at Barretts Restaurants in Pullman Magenta Shores is a relaxed affair, only running on a Saturday and Sunday. There’s  a variety of petit fours and sweet and savoury pastries served with tea or coffee. Have your Coasties Card? It will get you a free glass of sparkling with high tea.

4. Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific

There’s four different options available at the Crowne Plaza Terrigal Pacific, with a traditional costing $42 and the fancy cocktail high tea costing $62. But our favourite is the high tea for kids option, which is $22 a head and comes with mini beef burgers, milkshakes and fairy bread. No matter what you choose, you’ll enjoy with that million-dollar view of Terrigal Beach.

5. Mercure Kooindah Waters

For $55 a person, the Karinyas Restaurant and Wine Bar, found in Mercure Kooindah Waters offers a three-tier afternoon tea with a glass of bubbly on arrival. Okay, so tier one is your warm canapes and savoury. Tier two has freshly made scones and cakes. And tier three is chocolates, macaroons and fresh berries.

6. Hatters Tea House

Found in Ettalong, Hatters Tea House is a completely unique offering. It really is like a scene straight out of Alice in Wonderland. Mix matched interiors, out-there staff and a rather loyal followers from the local pensioners. The only thing traditional here is the high tea, which has neat cakes, finger sandwiches and teapots of freshly brewed tea, costing $45 a head.
