Central Coast Farms Where You Can Pick Your Own Fruit
Fruit picking on a rural farm is the most fun and engaging experience for not only kids but adults too. Aside from getting out into nature and supporting our local producers, it’s just one of those incredible experiences, which become wonderful memories. Kids’ faces light up as they learn about how produce is grown and when they get to pick their own. and, then there is the sheer joy that comes from making something with the fruit you pick yourself. Whether it’s as simple as freshly squeezed orange juice or a pecan pie.
If you’re looking to do some pick your own or PYO as the farmers refer to it, with your kids, then here are four places where you can pick fruit on the Central Coast in NSW.
Pick Your Own Oranges Dooralong
Open on weekends in winter, this farm in Dooralong has orchards open to the public where you can roam free and pick as many oranges as will fit into your carry bags. Pick Your Own Sunflowers
There are a few farms on the Central Coast where you can pick your own sunflowers. An annual harvest that is incredibly popular with Coastie families. These spots are our top picks.
The Bloom Barn
One of the Coast’s most popular spots to pick sunflowers. A long-established flower farm that opens for the picking season. Please keep an eye on their socials and website for booking links and the most up to date info on PYO sunflowers. The farm can also be booked for weddings, functions and private events. Psst also supplies the Gosford and Newcastle Farmers Markets for those of you who aren’t keen on doing the dirty work of picking. On that note – gum boots are highly recommended.

The Food Farm
Located in the beautiful countryside of Wyong is The Food Farm and once a year they open up their fields filled with sunflowers so you can pick your own. It’s $1 a stem and no need to pre-book, you can just turn up. There’s an honesty box to pop your money into. Don’t forget a set of cutters and closed-toes shoes work best here.

Artisan Estate Pecans
Ok so rather than picking pecans, we’d say this activity is a little more like collecting pecans. No less fun by any means, in fact, the art of swishing a stick over leaves on the ground to reveal the pecans that have been shaken from the trees above can be quite meditative. And if you want to watch something very mesmerising, pop over to Artisan Estate’s socials (@artisan_estate) and check out how they shake the pecan trees to dislodge the nuts!
Picking is open to the public and happens each year during Harvest Festival.
Address: 30 Ulinga Rd, Somersby
